Na twee theaterseizoenen waarin de iconische American Recordings centraal stonden, wordt het tijd om het gaspedaal even wat dieper in te drukken. Er wordt ruim baan gemaakt voor hits, band- en publieksfavorieten uit het omvangrijke repertoire van de legendarische Man In Black. It’s good to be back on the Road Again!

Meer dan een halve eeuw na de eerste hits van Johnny Cash weten de Brabanders van Def Americans Johnny Cash Tribute de swing, sfeer en rebellie van een optreden van de legendarische Amerikaanse outlaw verbluffend goed te raken. De bandnaam lijkt niet direct te refereren naar een Johnny Cash Tribute, maar voor de geoefende muziekliefhebber ligt het voor de hand: ten tijde van de samenwerking van Johnny Cash met Rick Rubin werd diens label DefJam omgedoopt naar het alom bekende American Recordings.

Inmiddels heeft de band een indrukwekkende livereputatie opgebouwd in het club- en festivalcircuit en meerdere geslaagde theatertournees door heel het land. Of het nu gaat om Johnny’s werk bij Sun Records, de prison platen, gospels, duetten met June Carter of de American Recordings reeks, Def Americans slaagt erin nieuw leven te blazen in de songs die Cash zelf met zoveel liefde en bevlogenheid wist te brengen. Het werk van Cash beslaat van begin tot eind bijna 50 jaar en blijft in de handen van Def Americans overeind door de onmiskenbare sound ervan oprecht en authentiek neer te zetten zonder het rauwe en rebelse randje van The Man In Black uit het oog te verliezen.

Dat viel ook Johnny’s jongere broer Tommy Cash op. Die benaderde de band in 2013 om deze te begeleiden tijdens zijn ‘My Brother Johnny’-shows in Nederland. Ook in het buitenland maakt Def Americans dus indruk, steeds vaker steekt de band dan ook de landsgrenzen over, voor shows in bijvoorbeeld België, Duitsland, Noorwegen en Engeland.

Ample room is made for hits, band and audience favorites from the extensive repertoire of the legendary Man In Black. It’s good to be back on the Road Again!

More than half a century after Johnny Cash's first hits, the Brabanders of Def Americans Johnny Cash Tribute manage to capture the swing, atmosphere and rebellion of a performance by the legendary American outlaw astonishingly well. The band name does not seem to directly refer to a Johnny Cash Tribute, but for the experienced music lover it is obvious: at the time of Johnny Cash's collaboration with Rick Rubin, his label DefJam was renamed to the well-known American Recordings.

The band has now built up an impressive live reputation in the club and festival circuit and has completed several successful theater tours throughout the country. Whether it concerns Johnny's work at Sun Records, the prison records, gospels, duets with June Carter or the American Recordings series, Def Americans succeeds in breathing new life into the songs that Cash himself managed to perform with so much love and enthusiasm. Cash's work spans almost 50 years from start to finish and remains intact in the hands of Def Americans by creating its unmistakable sound sincerely and authentically without losing sight of the raw and rebellious edge of The Man In Black.

Johnny's younger brother Tommy Cash also noticed this. He approached the band in 2013 to accompany it during its 'My Brother Johnny' shows in the Netherlands. Def Americans is also making an impression abroad, and the band is increasingly crossing national borders for shows in, for example, Belgium, Germany, Norway and England.
